- Junior Cycle Age 12-14. Years 1-3.
- During the Junior Cycle, students prepare for the Junior Certificate, an examination that assesses their academic progress at the end of the Year 3.
- Transition Year (TY) Age 15. Year 4.
- TY is an optional year designed to give students a more flexible and varied educational experience. It focuses on personal development and includes a combination of academic subjects, practical modules, work experience, community involvement, and extracurricular activities. With less academic pressure, TY is the perfect introduction to high school in Ireland for international students.
- Senior Cycle Age 16-17. Years 5-6.
- During the Senior Cycle, students prepare for the Leaving Certificate, which is the key academic qualification for entry into universities and other higher education institutions.
The School Year in Ireland
The school year in Ireland starts in September and ends in early June.
- Schools prefer that students attend from September, but starting at other times in the year may also be possible.
